Any road to recovery can be made easier to travel, with the help of good support and guidance. Midtown Dentistry is your trusted Tulsa dentist because we truly make your smile our mission, and are happy to be there with you every step of the way. This guide is a great place to start if you are readying for oral surgery, or can be a helpful resource to anyone assisting someone who has just gone the important route to improved appearance, function, and health that can be provided by oral surgery.
Prescriptions are always the first consideration in post surgery care. Keep these directions as prescribed by your Tulsa dentist professionals at Midtown Dentistry, such as antibiotics for infection prevention.
Preventing pain goes miles beyond treating present pain. Make sure to know your recommended dose of pain relief medication, (along with which over-the-counter medicines are safe with your prescriptions,) and take it regularly to stay ahead of the curve as you head towards improved dental health and function, and the great smile that goes along with that.
Your Tulsa dentist family at the offices of Dr. Daniel Griffiths and Dr. Fred Kapple shares your goals for a road to recovery that is as pain free as possible, and want to ensure you make progress in comfort. Be sure to contact us if you need more direct aftercare.
Cooling down with ice is recommended to reduce swelling post surgery. The advice from our Tulsa dentist team is to apply ice to swollen or tender areas, gently and directly. Apply the ice in a schedule of fifteen minutes with the ice, and fifteen minutes without the ice.
Expect some bleeding, and expect it to taper off after the first full 24 hours. Typically, we advise avoiding rinsing, brushing, or irritating your mouth, and aspirin, a blood thinner. After 24 hours, a salt water rinse is recommended, (just stir some salt into hot water, allow the water to cool to a comfortable temperature, rinse and spit.)
Eat soft and liquid foods for a full day or more. A healthy diet is an important part of healing, so make sure you are eating foods like soups, yogurt, smoothies, and mashed vegetables.
Take a rest. We are proud of the work our Tulsa dentist offices of Dr. Griffiths and Dr. Kapple do, and we advise you to rest and recover with peace of mind. Your body needs to do its own work without irritation or interruption, so avoid exercise for the first 12 to 24 hours.
